The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), Office of Tourism, is pleased to declare the inauguration of its latest international office in New Delhi, India. This strategic initiative is designed to draw an increased number of international visitors to Illinois, leveraging the rising interest among Indian travelers and further strengthening the state’s global tourism presence.

India ranks among the top five international markets for visitors to Illinois, demonstrating significant growth in recent years. Between 2019 and 2023, the number of Indian visitors increased by 55%, solidifying India’s position as a vital source market for tourism in Illinois.

The inauguration of IOT’s inaugural office in India coincides with a notable increase in international visitation to Illinois. In 2023, the state attracted 112 million domestic and international visitors, who collectively spent $47 billion—marking an increase of 1 million visitors and $3 billion in expenditures compared to 2022, as reported by Tourism Economics. Illinois experienced a significant influx of 2.16 million international visitors, reflecting a remarkable 39% growth from the prior year. This trend highlights Illinois’ emerging prominence as a desirable global destination.
