Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) announced that Susumu Matsumoto, a native of Saitama Prefecture in Japan, has assumed the position of heading its New York office, taking over from Michiaki Yamada.
Mr. Matsumoto, who graduated from Keio University’s Faculty of Law in 2005, brings with him a wealth of experience in government service. He began his career with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2005 and later served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2007 to 2009. From 2009 to 2010, he worked closely with the Japan Coast Guard.
He completed his MPP degree at UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs in California between 2010 and 2012. Following that, he remained involved with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the inbound tourism promotional department of Mie Prefecture until 2017.
Upon his assignment to New York, Mr. Matsumoto will be accompanied by his wife and two daughters. Exploring local boutiques during leisurely strolls through city neighborhoods is one of his preferred activities.
