Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, has officially assumed the role of Chair of the IATA Board of Governors (BoG) as announced by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). His term, which lasts for one year, commenced following the conclusion of the 80th IATA Annual General Meeting in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 3 June.
Elbers is now the 82nd Chair of the IATA BoG. He previously served on the Board from 2016 to 2022 while holding the position of President and CEO at KLM. After taking on the role of CEO at IndiGo, he was reappointed to the Board in 2022. Elbers takes over from Yvonne Manzi Makolo, CEO of RwandAir, who will remain a member of the BoG.
Elbers boasts more than three decades of extensive experience in the aviation sector. Serving as the CEO of IndiGo since September 2022, he has spearheaded the airline’s growth and global outreach. Before his tenure at IndiGo, he spent eight years as the President and CEO of KLM. Elbers began his professional journey at KLM in 1992 as the Manager of Aircraft Loading, gradually progressing to hold significant leadership roles within the company across different countries such as The Netherlands, Japan, Greece, and Italy.
