Emirates, the renowned international airline, has recently made history by becoming the inaugural global carrier to join aireg, the esteemed Aviation Initiative for Renewable Energy in Germany. This momentous occasion took place during the official signing ceremony at ILA Berlin 2024, where Emirates wholeheartedly pledged its membership. This remarkable step not only highlights Emirates’ unwavering dedication to enhancing the sustainability of its operations but also emphasizes its commitment to the advancement of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). By joining aireg, Emirates will actively contribute to the ongoing efforts aimed at bolstering the production of locally sourced SAF in Germany. This initiative perfectly complements the numerous other SAF-related endeavors that Emirates has successfully launched in recent months.

The agreement between Emirates and aireg was formalized in Berlin by Volker Greiner, Emirates Vice President for North & Central Europe, and Siegfried Knecht, Chairman of the Executive Board of aireg. Dr. Anna Christmann, Federal Government Coordinator of German Aerospace Policy, also participated in the signing ceremony.
