The WestJet Group has officially declared its intention to purchase three more Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft from SMBC Aviation Capital. This acquisition complements the six Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft that were previously announced by the WestJet Group earlier this summer.
“Together with our valued partner SMBC, we are excited to expand our fleet with the addition of three additional Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, furthering our commitment to delivering cost-effective air travel solutions for our customers,” stated Mike Scott, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer of the WestJet Group.
The recent acquisition of nine leased Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft over the past six months enables the airline to strengthen its fleet expansion strategy, particularly in light of delays affecting direct-from-factory aircraft. By utilizing these additional planes and expanding capacity, the WestJet Group will further improve essential air access for its customers throughout its expanding network.
