Qatar Airways Cargo has once more provided support to Animal Defenders International, this occasion being the transportation of six young lions from the illicit wildlife trade to the ADI Wildlife Sanctuary in Johannesburg. Referred to as the “Kuwait 6”, the group consists of the male lions Muheeb, Saham, Shujaa, Saif, and the female lions Dhubiya and Aziza. These lions were previously under the care of Kuwait Zoo. Following a request from Kuwait government officials, Animal Defenders International (ADI) extended their assistance by offering the lions a new home at their expansive 455-acre sanctuary located in South Africa.
Mark Drusch, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways Cargo expressed his pride in supporting ADI once again. The WeQare Rewild the Planet initiative underscores the airline’s dedication to reintroducing wildlife and endangered species to their natural environment without any cost. Drusch highlighted the extensive effort and logistical planning required by the team to successfully transport the animals. This includes managing airport logistics, loading and unloading the animals from the aircraft, and ensuring their well-being and safety in appropriate cages.
