Boeing and Emirates SkyCargo have officially revealed an order for an additional five units of the largest and longest-range twin-engine freighter in the world, further expanding upon their previous acquisition of five 777 Freighters. This most recent order, which was completed in September and initially categorized as unidentified on Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries website, increases Emirates‘ total orders to 249 Boeing widebody aircraft, which includes 14 units of the 777 Freighter.
As the cargo segment of the largest international airline globally, Emirates SkyCargo intends to increase its fleet to 21 777 Freighters in the upcoming years, nearly doubling its existing fleet of 11 freighters as the airline seeks to enhance its capacity.
The 777 Freighter boasts the ability to travel greater distances (9,200 kilometers / 4,970 nautical miles) and transport more cargo (102 tons) than any other twin-engine cargo aircraft currently available. This feature allows operators to transport larger volumes of freight on more direct routes while achieving improved operational efficiency, thereby linking high-value cargo markets in the Middle East with those in the U.S. and Europe.
Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook anticipates that an additional 2,845 freighters will be introduced into service over the next two decades to accommodate the increasing demands of global trade and e-commerce. The 777 Freighter stands as Boeing’s most successful freighter model, with a total of 275 units delivered thus far. As the leading manufacturer of freighter aircraft, Boeing accounts for over 90% of the global dedicated freighter capacity, encompassing both newly produced and converted aircraft.
